Heroes Don't Wear Capes

It's teacher appreciation week, and there really couldn't be a better time of the year to recognize them. By the month of May, they have battled on the classroom floor and have poured of themselves to an immeasurable degree. They've sacrificed sleep to plan and grade papers, they've turned to their own resources for supplies, and they've heard their fair share of parent complaints. They've been cursed out, taunted, ignored, drooled on, pinched, and hit (especially if they teach littles or are a school-based therapist). Creative juices are running low around this time of the year. Heck, let's be honest  -- they're rethinking their career choice right about now and holding onto the promise of summer!

All jokes aside, it's a really tough job, but we all have that one teacher we'll never forget... the one who pushed us beyond our limits, ignited our interests, challenged our thinking, encouraged us to chase a dream, shaped our character, or saw potential in us when we didn't. Teachers are leaders, detectives, instructors, innovators, risk-takers, motivators, philanthropists, role-models, counselors, advocates, and givers. They are the backbone of education, and the good ones restore our hope in humanity. If you haven't yet, please take some time this week to thank your teachers for all that they do so selflessly.

Teachers, even though you may not always hear it, you are the apple of our eyes. Please keep teaching, caring, and inspiring our kids. Education is a gruesome fight, but one worth fighting for.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
